PROGRAM OUTLINE
Each 60-90 min. session uniquely consists of a combination of three different but compatible styles of coaching. This is a technique successfully pioneered by Grasshopper Soccer over the past 13 years in Japan, Australia, and the United States. We have bases in Tokyo, Perth, Ventura, Ojai, Santa Paula, Malibu, and San Francisco.

1. The Storybook Approach

Each session will begin with the Storybook technique in which various skills will be introduced in a fun, game-type environment. A mental picture will be drawn for the young players and a fun task assigned. The young players will learn such skills as turning, vision, support, control, passing, and teamwork while having far too much fun.

2. Skills Training

We will spend a portion of each session learning, practicing, and reinforcing specific skills which can be applied in real game situations.

3. Micro Soccer™

Each session will end with Micro Soccer™. Micro Soccer™ is a 3-a-side game which uses simple rules which are easily understood by the young mind. Its practices have been developed to give the coach and the novice player a simple formula that guarantees fun, skills development and a fundamental knowledge of soccer in such a way that a child can understand. To learn more about this unique system please ask for a flier.

Grasshopper Soccer has adopted the acronym FEAST which best explains our philosophy.

Fun   has to be an essential requirement of every exercise, at every practice
Everyone   must receive equal opportunity of involvement-in other words, equal time
Activity   must be at the core because it affects every other part of the FEAST
Skills   must be developed for greater enjoyment through greater accomplishment
Team   play must be included in every activity, because soccer is a ‘team’ game

Come and join us and see what quality, professional soccer coaching is all about. While your child is learning and having a great time, you will be preparing yourself to take a more active role in “The Beautiful Game”. We encourage the attendance and participation of parents in a supportive, constructive role.

Ages 4-10 years old

The goal is to deliver a fantastic soccer education program to young children aged 4-10 years, using the international model of Grasshoppers Inc. based in Australia, Japan, and California.

Pint Size Soccer
(for 4-5 years) 50 minutes

Together with an adult alongside kids will take their first step (kicks!) in soccer. They’ll be introduced in a fun way to shooting, dribbling, and ball manipulation skills over 8 terms.

Tyros Micro Soccer
(for 6-8 year) 75 minutes

The ultimate challenge for young grasshoppers , who’ll learn the rules of this fun-packed 3 v 3 game and get to pass, dribble, shoot, and be goalkeeper. The right way to learn team play…

Grasshoppers Plus
(for 8-10 years) 85 minutes

This exciting new program has been primarily developed to bridge the gap, provide continuity, between Micro Soccer and the more demanding Club Soccer

Sessions will be once a week, and will continue for 9 weeks “skipping ski week”. Availability dependant upon demand…

********Scheduled Sessions for Marin County for 2007********

Session size will not exceed 12 to 15 per session. I will guarantee placement of your child through March 10th, 2007. Thereafter, placement will be offered on a first come first served basis. Therefore, to take advantage of this offer, please register your child by March 10th 2007, 2006. Placement will only be guaranteed when payment in full is received. The payment will constitute a 50% non-refundable deposit. The remaining 50% will be refunded if your child is withdrawn from the program by March 15th, 2007. After that date no refunds will be made due to withdrawing a child prior to the start of the program (this does not affect my promise refund payment in full if you are not satisfied with the program after it starts). This is a stipulation that, frankly, I do not like to impose. It is, however, necessary. Previously, I have refused placement for children on the basis of an apparently full course only to find that a number of registered participants’ do not show. This is unfair to the children who have been refused and places an undue burden on me. It is unfortunate that the few spoil things for the many.

Cost $120.00 for the ten-week program, plus a one time registration fee of $25. An additional $15.00 will be discounted for the second and subsequent child registered from the same family. I will also discount an additional $5.00 for each child (up to a maximum of four) you refer and who registers for this course. Session times/days and places are t.b.d. shortly or catered to groups who can complete a session.

About Tighe O’Sullivan:

Born and raised in Marin County, as a player was on the first team to ever win the State Cup in District V (Mill Valley Juventus). Went on to play at College of Marin and Dominican University where he was part of the first two seasons of the program and won two Conference Championships. Now plays for various teams within Club Marin.

He has been coaching youth and adult soccer for 16 years. Has worked with Grasshoppers since 2000, and spent time in Japan coaching the programs in Tokyo. He is a CYSA staff coach and has coached teams both at the State and District Level. He is currently the US National Team Assistant Coach for Beach Soccer, and participated in the 2006 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

He has taken every opportunity to broaden his understanding of the game through traveling abroad and being part of it. In the last ten years he has been to 25 different countries and to Spain 12 times. In that time he has spent time participating at Academia de Tahuichi in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, taken kids to Real Madrid annually for the past seven years to train with their youth coaches, and seen an assortment of training facilities and methods on four different continents. He believes the abroad experience helped shape him into who he is today as a coach and person.

Locally he has coached at San Marin, Redwood, and Marin Catholic High Schools. In ten years at Marin Catholic he coached and helped build the program into the success it is today. He currently coaches at Redwood where his JV team posted an undefeated record for the fall of 2006. In addition, he has pretty much coached select soccer for every league in the county at one time or another. His devotion is to soccer and the community of Marin.
